True Fitness for Life
Do you consider yourself fit? Do you exercise daily, eat the right foods, get plenty of fresh air? If you do, you are embracing one important facet of loving oneself. Let’s take a few minutes to review that necessary facet—and a couple more—on our quest to attain true fitness. While actively reflecting all facets of God’s nature is important to a full realization of health and fitness, we will consider three here: Truth, Soul, Mind.
Truth: The most important mission we must undertake toward achieving fitness for our continuing journey is clarifying and expanding our spiritual understanding—it is the pillar upon which everything else rests. As we daily seek to align thought more closely with the Truth about God’s nature and our own, the necessity for loving and caring for ourselves becomes clear. We see how consciously and conscientiously meeting this responsibility better prepares us to bless our world in fulfilling the requirement of expressing love and care not only for ourselves, but for others as well.
Soul: In this dimension of our eternal journey, our refection of Soul, our sense of individual identity, includes a physical body. This body is the human avatar that carries us through this earthly way-stop and deserves our love, tender care, and consistent consideration. How often do we propel ourselves through the day’s activities without giving the maintenance of this precious vehicle much thought? This inattention is a perilous way to live, a form of Russian roulette! No matter whether we like what we see in the mirror or not, no matter whether healthy or challenged, this body expresses our current state today and we must cherish it, protect it, and provide it with the best possible care. This includes:
Mind: Life is a continuous learning opportunity that does not end with formal education. Keeping mentally fit—active and aware of new knowledge, innovations, and current world conditions—is our solemn duty to ourselves and all humankind. As we expand consciousness, we become aware of the amazing, fascinating complexity of our world, the depth of the human spirit, and the challenges where our action may be needed to help influence change. Another important aspect of expressing Mind more fully is cultivating the fertile soil of openness of thought for continuous growth. In addition, we must not allow ourselves to become mentally lazy or to pollute our thought with Mind-less preoccupations. We need to find a proper balance in our pursuit of casual entertainment with wholesome and interesting activities that enrich our lives.
Achieving and maintaining true fitness in all aspects of life can only bring joy, happiness, and harmony to our lives and bless all those around us. Let’s make the commitment today to move spiritedly toward that goal!
